2-Inch Cut Off Wheels for Die Grinders and Air Tools
Two-inch cutting discs run on die grinders, air cut-off tools, mini chop saws, and 2″ benchtop cut-off miter saws -- not angle grinders. That changes the job they do. At 2″, you are cutting bolts, studs, rod stock, and small bracket work in spaces where a 4.5″ or even a 3″ disc physically cannot reach. The choice between the two discs here comes down to one variable: how much material you can afford to lose at the cut line. Use the table below to pick the right one.
Which 2″ Cut Off Wheel Is Right for Your Job?
| Disc | Thickness | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| BHA 1/16″ T1 — 10 Pack | 1/16″ | General cutting on mild steel, bar stock, and pipe; more disc life per cut on heavier material |
| BHA 1/32″ T1 — 10 Pack | 1/32″ | Precision cuts where kerf loss matters: bolt studs, stainless tubing, sheet metal, and work near sensitive components |
What Jobs Call for a 2″ Cutting Disc
Die grinder cutting discs at 2″ handle access problems that angle grinders cannot solve. Seized bolt and stud removal in engine bays, exhaust flange cuts in tight runs, bearing race relief cuts, and bracket trimming inside confined assemblies are all standard use cases. The 3/8″ arbor mounts direct to air cut-off tools, mini chop saws, and 2″ benchtop cut-off miter saws. For electric and pneumatic die grinders -- DeWalt®, Milwaukee®, Makita®, Metabo®, Bosch® -- use a standard 3/8″ x 1/4″ mandrel. Both discs are rated at 30,000 RPM, which covers the full range of these tools at standard shop pressures.
1/16″ vs. 1/32″: Choosing by Kerf and Application
The 1/16″ disc is the general-purpose option. It carries more body, lasts longer per cut on heavier stock, and handles the kind of aggressive bolt and rod work where disc life matters more than precision at the cut line. The 1/32″ disc cuts a narrower kerf -- roughly half the material removed per pass. That matters when you are cutting close to a thread you need to keep, trimming a stud flush to a surface, or cutting stainless hardware where excess heat at the cut line causes discoloration. The 1/32″ wears faster on heavy-gauge steel, which is why both packs come in 10-count quantities rather than single discs.
Safe Use of 2″ Cut Off Wheels
Both discs in this line are rated at 30,000 RPM. Verify your tool’s no-load speed before mounting -- air cut-off tools and pneumatic die grinders vary by model, and some exceed 30,000 RPM at full pressure. Mini chop saws and benchtop cut-off saws typically run well under that limit, but confirm before use. Do not use these discs for side grinding or lateral pressure applications. A 2″ disc at 30,000 RPM has very little margin for side loading. Wear eye protection and a face shield. Use the appropriate guard for your tool type. The 1/32″ disc is MPA Tested and ANSI B7.1 compliant.
