Carbide Burr Sets for Precision Cutting, Grinding, and Deburring

Empire Abrasives offers a wide range of tungsten carbide burrs available to purchase individually, but we also carry carbide burr sets to give a cost-friendly and practical option to customers.

Carbide burrs are an essential tool for professionals, DIYers, and hobbyists. They are commonly used in various applications in metalworking, woodworking, and automotive repair. At Empire Abrasives, we carry a variety of tungsten carbide burrs for all of your needs, available in miniature sets and larger sets with different shank sizes and cutting types (shapes).

Empire Abrasive Carbide Burr Features

All of our burr packs feature:

  • High-quality tungsten carbide - known for its durability and precision that is able to withstand high temperatures and heavy use without losing its cutting edge.

  • Five-axis CNC precision cut flutes - ensures each burr features unmatched uniformity and balance for vibration-free cutting and grinding.

  • Silver welds - burr heads and shanks are welded with silver to provide a stronger bond than the industry standard copper weld.

  • Sturdy storage case - each set comes with a convenient storage case, so you can easily keep all of your burrs organized and accessible.

Applications:

Carbide burr sets are commonly used in various industries, including metalworking, woodworking, and automotive repair. They are ideal for tasks such as shaping, deburring, engraving, weld prep, and cleaning and smoothing materials like metal, wood, plastics, and ceramics.

Aluma Cut vs Double Cut Carbide Burrs

The two main differences between carbide burrs is the type of cut - aluma cut and double cut. Both are made of premium tungsten carbide and are CNC precision cut, but they differ in their cutting pattern and applications.

Aluma Cut carbide burrs are designed for use on soft and non-ferrous metals, such as aluminum and brass, and other softer materials like plastics and wood. They have a single flute that is specially designed to peel away metal rather than grind it down. This reduces temperature buildup and the amount of loading and clogging that can occur when working with softer materials. This type of carbide burr produces a fine chip that is easier to clear.

Double Cut carbide burrs, on the other hand, are designed for use on harder materials such as steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. They have two flutes that cross-cut each other and produce a smaller chip size compared to Aluma Cut burrs. The cross-cutting pattern also creates a smoother finish on the material being worked on.

Individual Carbide Burrs

In addition to our carbide burr sets, all carbide burrs are available for individual purchase.

Choosing the Right Carbide Burr Bits

When choosing a carbide burr set for your project, there are several factors to consider. These include the type of material you will be working on, the size of the burr, the shape of the burr, and the type of cut you need.

The shape of the carbide burr is especially important. Different shaped burr bit heads are designed for specific applications. For example, a cylinder shaped burr is ideal for contouring and interior contouring, while a ball shape is great for creating concave cuts. Similarly, a flame shape is perfect for shaping grooves and recesses, while a tree shape is ideal for reaching into tight spaces.

It is also important to consider the material you are working on. For example, if you are working with a soft metal like aluminum, the aluma cut set may be the best option. On the other hand, if you are working on harder materials like steel, the double cut set may be the better option.
