Two classics staples combined! The versatility and reliability of a flap disc now with the surface preparation capabilities of surface conditioning sanding pads. 4.5” Inch Surface Conditioning Flap Discs by Black Hawk Abrasives are made from premium nylon webbing infused with aluminum oxide grains, adhered in an overlapping, flap pattern onto a strong fiberglass backing. These discs provide the same blending, deburring and cleaning ability of a surface conditioning discs but now with the added benefit of longer life and more consistent finishes provided by the flap disc construction. As the nylon material wares down, new material is revealed allowing for more consistent results with less down time to switch discs. These flap discs will not only offer better results than standard surface conditioning discs but increase operator efficiency and decrease operator fatigue. 4.5” x 7/8” scotch brite surface conditioning flap discs are perfect for use on steel as well as stainless steel and come in 3 variations of coarseness: Fine - Blue, Medium - Maroon/Red, and Coarse - Brown. Additionally, these discs attach right to a standard angle grinder without the need of any backing pad. Finally, each disc is designed with a T29 (conical) shape for optimal surface contact during use.

I ordered the flap disc bundle, because I was restoring a old car. They work great for removing old paint and rust without marring up the frame or body panels in preparation for new paint i like this it worked great for what I was trying to accomplishproduct.
Appreciate the grit choice as these speed the step process along quickly. Good durability when used properly.
I'm still figuring out where to use the different sorts of prep wheels optimally, I find that these have a tiny bit of flex to them which is very helpful in some circumstances, compared to say, a regular blue prep wheel (nonstructured). I was actually using this one (blue/fine) to strip varnish off wood, which works surprisingly well. I discovered that you can unload the varnish from the disc by tapping the running disc on a metal grate. Anyway, I like them, so far. I tend to lean towards the blue grit.
I ordered the wrong parts. My fault. Empire customer is fast, accurate, pleasant and very helpful. This is now my go-to place.

I recently tackled the distasteful task of re-polishing some aluminum pieces from a 90' 5.0L Mustang. I always knew of sandpaper flap discs but was introduced to 3M pad discs in a couple grits. They were amazing! Super effective and easy to use. I was also floored by how fast they arrived cross-country from NJ to Seattle.

Been using a very similar wheel made by Standard abrasives for years. I've also been paying 2-3x the price of these. Made it a pint to try them out. Couldn't be happier and they actually last a little longer I think.

These are great disks. I got the coarse and medium and they were just what I needed. Empire has good stuff, I just completed a nice kit for the shop and I am getting great feedback from everyone.
