Product Description

6" Aluminum Cut Off Wheel — AO+SiC Blend, Type 1, 25 Pack

When you’re moving from small brackets to structural plate, wide sheet, or large-diameter tubing, a standard 4.5" disc forces too many repositions. The BHA 6" Aluminum Cut-Off Wheel is engineered for high-capacity production, offering a deeper reach and more surface area per stroke to finish long runs faster. Built with a specialized AO+SiC hybrid blend, this disc solves the primary challenge of 6" non-ferrous cutting: heat management. While standard wheels 'plow' and melt the metal into the abrasive, this wheel slices and self-cleans, keeping you moving through thick aluminum, copper, and brass without the disc glazing over.

What Makes This Disc Different

  • Active Anti-Loading Tech: The combination of sharp Silicon Carbide (SiC) and tough Aluminum Oxide (AO) creates a self-cleaning cutting face. The SiC prevents the 'smearing' and welding of soft metal particles into the disc pores, while the AO provides the structural backbone needed for high-torque 6" grinders.
  • Greater Reach, Fewer Passes. On wide sheet, plate, larger structural tubing, and thick-walled pipe, a smaller disc requires multiple passes to complete a cut. The 6" covers more in one stroke, which adds up over a full production run.
  • MPA Tested, ANSI B7.1 and EN 12413 compliant. Built and third party tested to the same safety standards required for abrasives in industrial and production environments. Max RPM is marked on every disc.
  • 25-pack for shops running non-ferrous cutting at volume. Per-disc cost at 25-pack quantity is built for regular production use, not one-off cuts. One fabrication shop in our reviews runs 200–300 of these per year.

Product Features

  • Aluminum oxide / silicon carbide (AO+SiC) abrasive blend — the silicon carbide component fractures cleanly on aluminum and other soft metals, resisting the glazing and buildup that kills standard ferrous discs on these materials.
  • .045" profile — same kerf width as the 4.5" version in this family. Thin enough to minimize heat buildup and burr on the cut edge, even on production-volume cuts.
  • Fiberglass reinforced mesh backing — keeps the disc structurally stable under load at 10,200 RPM. Critical on a larger-diameter disc where flex and vibration increase.
  • Max RPM: 10,200 — rated for 6" angle grinders. Fits DeWalt®, Makita®, Milwaukee®, Metabo®, Bosch®, and other 6" grinders with a standard 7/8" arbor.
  • 25-disc pack — stocked for production shops and operations running regular non-ferrous cuts, not occasional single-disc jobs.

Materials Suitable for Cutting

Material Notes
Aluminum Sheet, plate, flat bar, large-diameter tubing. The 6" diameter reduces repositioning on wide or long stock compared to smaller discs.
Copper Large-diameter pipe, bus bar, sheet. Wider disc covers more per pass on larger copper stock.
Brass Bar stock, fittings, plate. Cuts without loading or buildup.
Bronze Fittings, bar stock, plate.
Other non-ferrous soft metals Any non-ferrous metal with a low melting point. Verify Max RPM is not exceeded for the application.
Steel / stainless steel Not recommended. Use a standard aluminum oxide cut off wheel for ferrous metals.

Common Applications

Production and shop use:

  • Repeat cuts on aluminum sheet, plate, and flat bar where disc repositioning slows production
  • High-volume non-ferrous cutting where consistent cut quality disc-to-disc matters
  • Fabrication shops and operations running aluminum or copper stock on a regular basis

Fabrication and metalworking:

  • Wide aluminum sheet and plate cuts requiring full-width coverage in one pass
  • Large-diameter aluminum tubing, structural members, and flat bar to length
  • Copper and brass pipe and bus bar cuts for electrical and HVAC work
  • Welding prep on non-ferrous stock — clean kerf reduces cleanup before the weld

Automotive and structural work:

  • Aluminum flatbed modification and structural cuts
  • Wide aluminum panel cuts where a smaller disc requires multiple strokes

Also available in smaller diameters in this family: 4.5" x .045" Cutting Disc for Aluminum — 25 Pack for standard 4.5" angle grinders, and 5" x .045" Cutting Disc for Aluminum — 25 Pack for 5" grinders. Same AO+SiC blend and 25-pack quantity — size determines which grinder they fit and how much material is covered per pass.

Need a 6" disc for steel or ferrous metals?

Frequently Asked Questions

When does it make sense to use a 6" disc instead of a 4.5"?

The main factor is stock width and production volume. On narrow material or occasional cuts, a 4.5" disc is lighter and easier to maneuver. On wide sheet, plate, or large-diameter tubing — especially in production where you're making the same cut repeatedly — the 6" covers more material per pass and reduces total repositioning time. If you're running dozens of cuts per day on the same wide stock, the efficiency adds up.

What metals can this cut besides aluminum?

Copper, brass, bronze, and other non-ferrous soft metals. The AO+SiC blend is specifically designed for materials with a low melting point that would cause a standard ferrous disc to load up and fail. Not recommended for steel or stainless — use a standard aluminum oxide cut off wheel for ferrous metals.

What grinder does this fit?

6" angle grinders with a standard 7/8" arbor — DeWalt®, Makita®, Milwaukee®, Metabo®, Bosch®, and most other brands. Max RPM is 10,200. Confirm your grinder's rated speed does not exceed that before use. This disc does not fit 4.5" or 5" grinders.

Are these discs certified or safety rated?

Yes. MPA burst testing confirms the disc holds structurally at Max RPM. ANSI B7.1 and EN 12413 are the US and European safety standards for bonded abrasive cut-off wheels. Manufacturing is ISO 9001 certified. Max RPM is marked on each disc — do not exceed it.
