We are happy to announce that we have expanded our wire abrasives product line to include a whole new category of nylon wire brushes and wire wheels.
These new nylon based options are very similar in design to the wire brushes you’re likely already familiar with. Rather than use a metal like stainless steel or brass for the wire filaments, we’ve incorporated nylon bristles. Each of these stiff nylon bristles/filaments is also embedded with abrasive grains, varying by coarseness.
One of the benefits of all wire abrasives is that they naturally run at lower temperatures than alternatives like grinding wheels and flap discs. That being said, the typical brass or stainless steel wire products can still heat up to a point that they can damage the surface you are working on. If you want an option that will run much cooler, nylon wire brushes are the way to go. Additional benefits include the ability to be used wet or dry, they a naturally non-sparking option, and they won’t corrode or cause after-rust.
Common uses for these nylon wire products:
- Rust removal
- Scale and oxidation removal
- Paint stripping
- Auto Body work - Bondo and body filler removal
- Shou Sugi Ban finishing
- Glue, sealant and other adhesive removal
- Surface preparation
The level of abrasiveness varies between the different options. The wires are color coded for different levels of coarseness, as follow:
- Blue - Fine - 240 grit - Aluminum oxide
- Red - Medium - 120 grit - Aluminum oxide
- Blue - Coarse - 80 grit - Silicon Carbide
